Welcome
The Waverley Hotel is indeed a piece of history. Located at the corner of First and Dunsmuir in the "heart" of Cumberland, British Columbia, it carries it's 120 year history with a charm that continues to be the focus of what's happening in this increasingly popular little village.
The Waverley has been nominated
for Best Live Music Club in Canada!!
Our little pub has been nominated for Best Live Music Club in Canada! CBC Radio 3's Searchlight II competition highlights the country's great music scene and the venues that support it. The best part is that you can vote for the Waverley at radio3.cbc.ca. Just sign up at Radio 3 and you'll be able to vote once a day.
“Music lovers know that the very best way to experience their favourite bands, or to discover a favourite artist, is to see the act live – and most of us see our favourite bands within the darkened walls of a Canadian club,”
- CBC Radio 3 host Grant Lawrence
History
Constructed in 1886 as the Temperance boarding house, the facility housed many in a time when mining was Cumberland. In the 1920's it became a licensed establishment and has been serving the local and tourist population ever since. In the mid 1980's Harvey and Shannon Brown purchased the Waverley and have been running it as a "family" operation very much in the spirit of the vibrant community of Cumberland. Both Harvey and Shannon have been involved in the village throughout this period. Shannon served as chair of the Cumberland Health Centre on the Provincial Health and Labour Board. Harvey was on village council from 1983-96 culminating in 2 terms as mayor.
Today
Five minutes from the base of Mt. Washington it is very popular with the skiers in the winter and the mountain bikers in the spring, summer and fall.
Along with the appeal of the warm original wooden interior, a visit to the WAVE is made very welcoming by the friendly staff managed
by Karen Webber. Karen has been working for Harvey and Shannon for 18 years and manager for the past 7.
